Midnight at the Christmas Bookshop

Jenny Colgan

DID NOT FINISH: 6%

I was hoping for a story more similar to the first book where we are following a very relatable character as she adjusted to a quiet life helping run a bookshop and getting it ready for Christmas.
But since our FMC found a fella in the first one she just spent the first 30 min whining about him not sleeping with her. No thank you, hard pass.

I was absolutely loving this cute little Christmas tale, and then we hit the last 5%

The last thing I wanted or this story needed was the worlds most cringy,  insta-love plot point shoehorned in at the last second. The little family could have invited her to stay with none of the "you are the one I have been waiting for, i was a jerk because i was confused" garbage thrown in. And while i was aware it was written by a religious publisher i could have done without the holier than thou "dont worry I'm old fashioned" dialogue and the unneeded exposition of "the guest room was thankfully at the completely opposite end of the house and she only stayed there after a lengthy conversation about expectations." Its established she would have been just fine in the RV...

I'm irrationally mad, this was such a cute little Christmas tale and the last 5% completely ruined it for me. I wish i had stopped listening 20 min ago.
