Julia

I love 1984, its an old favorite and one I go back to at least every other year. I was excited for an alternate perspective but disappointed in the execution. Don't get me wrong, Julia well and truly fleshes out the world of 1984, and getting to see so much more of the party's inner workings and the lives outside of just those in the outer party. My issue is the other content. I saw a review that compared Julia to a smutty fan-fiction and I can't say its wrong.
I almost DNF'd much earlier after the description of
the aborted baby in the toilet. But put that off as being too sensitive as a new mom
. An argument could be made for the sexual content, but i could personally have done with about 1/5 the amount we get. What really set my teeth on edge was the description
of the child sexual abuse and how its both described and kind of written off.
100% big nope from me.
I decided to do a little double check of the other content warnings and after a brief review i've decided to call it where I'm at and not try and push through a book I was only enjoying about 30% of the time.

Don't think this one is for me. The over all mood going in is pretty bleak, and even though this is a book about a trans-man i guess i wasn't prepared for just how often dicks were talked about and described.
I'd like to find more books about trans and gender queer people but this one is a pass for me.

Not the books fault at all, I keep trying to find modern middle grade I love but I think I'm too far out of the target demographic for it now.
