I haven’t devoured a book like this in a really long time, which definitely feels apt. This book is just excellent at having an unreliable narrator and an unreliable narrative. Rage and anger was so visceral in every word as it built up and up. The audacity of the men was astounding and beyond what I expected yet it fit perfectly with what can actually happen in real life. What a book.
Parts of this book I really loved- The world and mythology building, the unpredictability, and the themes are good examples. However, I did find Ceris to be underwritten in the second half. The vagueness of some descriptions also bothered me. Honestly, this book is ideas and vibes. Luckily, I really love the ideas and mostly enjoy the vibes.
I picked this book up after it was mentioned in a YouTube video, and I’ve never been so impressed by a whim from YouTube. Some of the stories land harder than others but even the ones you don’t think of first stick with you. Through the Flash is far and away my favorite of the bunch. It’s something that I will always end up referring back to when I think of time loop fiction. Zimmer Land is one that especially spoke to me as a huge fan of theme parks and themed entertainment. Finkelstein 5 is a superb story that is a hell of an opener to the collection. But the thing that I remember most often is the phrase shoelookers.
I started reading this book through tiktok reccomendations, which made me skeptical from the start. But honestly it’s a very relatable and sweet sapphic story. I have a feeling some of the more modern touches will feel dated in a few years, but it helps fit the story into the now. I squealed over parts and screamed over others. A very very enjoyable book experience!
I understood really only about 3/4 of this book. As soon as I finished it I had to go look up a summary to understand what I had read. But damn if the confusion wasn’t the point and dang it makes this book so much more interesting. This is definitely a book you might have to read multiple times to understand what is happening. I know I will have to reread it before Alecto the ninth comes out
Everything about this book felt like it should have been my favorite thing, yet it felt like an absolute drag that I had to force myself through. It did pick up about 3/4 of the way through but it really was to little too late for me. I’m so sad I didn’t enjoy it, but I still can’t pretend that I did.
A fluffy queer witch romance, a very enjoyable twist on a modern classic formula. Not reinventing the wheel but sometimes you just need a cozy kind of story
