3.5 stars, received a copy via Amazon early reads. Super atmospheric book and a beautiful depiction of Vodou. The plot itself was alright, and not really what I cared about within the story. I really cared for the characters and their energies (except for that annoying cop ex boyfriend, he can go fall in a pit).

Everything there is to say about this book has been already said by people more eloquent than me. It’s absolutely fantastic. My favorite detail is how well the aliens were designed. They were so distinctly nonhuman that they circled back around to human again. A fantastic work

I don’t read a lot of YA so that does color my opinion of this book. The plot, worldbuilding, and interrogation of gender? Top notch. The pacing of both the plot and the romance? Leaves something to be desired. Loooooved the main character but I didn’t buy her affection for either of the main boys. I only kinda liked one of them. But, the vibes were amazing.

Definitely a book I’d read the sequel to, but not any fanfic for.

Fluffy cute butch/femme romance with every trope under the sun? An absolutely fantastic romance that reminded me exactly why I love this genre

This book hit me at literally the exact moment I needed it, at the peak of my own internal pressure crumbling. I consider myself one of those lonely creatures that is at the center of this and it just hit so deeply and told me what I really needed to hear.

The worldbuilding here is simply unmatched. It took me awhile to finish this, but every time I came back to this book I knew exactly what was happening and how everything worked even without explanation. Bonus points for lesbianism and tomb raider.
