I NEEDED a good fantasy book. The escape is like no other- I always have to get through the beginning confusion of keeping names and worlds straight in my head. After remembering who was who though I fell IN LOVE with the characters. The enemies to lovers romance was top notch, all of the best tropes are included, and the found family made me so happy LOVEDDDD

I loved this book. Going into it I had a open mind but I defiantly didn’t think I would love the story, characters, and romance SO much.

This book is a YA Fantasy current standalone (a series is maybe in the works AHHH) told from 2 main POV’s and sometimes three.

To give you a loose description of the plot, it’s based in a historical kind of medieval vibe world. In this world their are Mystics, who preform “magician” type shows for their career. Our girlboss of a main character, Ash, is one of these Mystics, Ash so strongly reminds me of Nina from Sox of Crows and Jude from The Folk of the Air series. Although this career path is different for her.

While men mystics are seen as creative, jaw dropping, etc. women are seen as witches….makes sense right…If a women mystic is caught she receives a similar trial to the historic witch trials. In simple terms if a women mystic is caught she is killed.

Because Ash doesn’t want to live in fear for the rest of her life she has chosen  to compete for the Queen’s Seal which will protest her from violence and discrimination. She just has to win over a lady and lord then the queen…seems pretty easy.

This book doesn’t just follow Ash’s journey though, it follows Ash’s and Ren’s journey. Ren is also a mystic and he meets Ash by trying to convince them to pair up. And wow wow wow let me tell you, he does not go away.

Their are SO MANY of the cutest, most inspiring, powerful moments in this book
