A beautifully-written book starring the most insufferable collection of characters I’ve ever read about. Watching them make their mistakes, break apart, hurt each other, leave, grow, change, and become themselves was an experience that I practically inhaled by the end of the book. Bonus star for the prose, which is simply gorgeous.

An eclectic short story collection with some real gems that I’ll no doubt revisit again and again over the years.

Gillian Flynn does this thing where she writes about the moral and emotional dregs of humanity in a way that makes you feel disgust and despair at reading any more about their lives, and then she writes it so well that doing anything other than reading the last 80 pages in one intense, scream-inducing sitting is unthinkable. Set-up, foreshadowing, twist in the third act, and finally conclusion — fucking masterful. Goddamn.

[redacted], you had possibly the stupidest fantasy bullshit name I’ve heard in quite some time and it’s a good thing you decided to just go by Gild.

This book has everything. Demons! Ghosts! Abrupt tone shifts in the third act (just like the first book, which I was delighted to see a return to)! Pregnancy! Murder! Ship names as plot-crucial information! A fun romp as always, and why I will always come back for Marissa Meyer’s YA fantasy retelling no matter how old I get.

A bite-sized fun and sexy romp, with the sweetest developing relationship between our MCs. Should the author so desire, I’d love to return to this universe one day for a full-length story.

Got even more out of this book on the reread than I did on my first reading. Maurice and Alec roam the greenwood still.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 5%.
Really wasn’t for me. The idea of the Bronte sisters solving crimes? Nah.
