Was this book good. Yes. Was it great, probably to some. But not to me. It probably didn’t help that I was reading it during an actual real life pandemic. I just didn’t feel a real connection to the characters and at some point I just sort of stopped caring? But I did end up finishing it and was content.
I will say I don’t typically read this genre, so it could just be a miss for me personally.

This book is so beautiful and heartbreaking. Such a powerful story. It was such a journey to read because the writing and stories are so unique, blending history and fantasy elements with the really dark realities of present day society.
The author’s note at the end is so important and really emphasizes why stories like this are important even though they are works of fiction.
This is definitely a book I’ll be thinking about for days, if not weeks, to come. Highly recommend.

It has been two months since I have read this, and I’m still thinking about it. It’s that good. The dynamic world, the depth of the characters, and the building story are so immersive. I can’t wait to read the second book!
