I loved Beach Read. It was a romance with the depth of a story about a young woman coming to terms with the flaws of her family. I wanted to love The People We Meet on Vacation, but it lacks depth. Worse, it is set up on the trope of two people who are clearly in love but too obtuse to realize it. That just doesn't work for me.
Based on the title and cover, I expected a light, beachy read. This novel is much darker. I liked it but not as much as previous Weiner books and not as much as Mother May I by Joshilyn Jackson, which has a similar set up.
