So, the title is a lie.
I hate Shiori even more.
As she said: monsters are nothing but selfish.
So much for melancholy and gloomy ... 😒
And that’s supposed to be romantic ...?
Half of my theory is true, although I kinda wished it weren't, cause it made Shiori even worse. Have I mentioned I hate her?
But hey. At least she puts humans and animals on the same level.
I also start to hate Miko for simply not killing Shiori.
Art is great as always, but not enough to get a higher rating.

I like the original draft (from the extras) more, actually. Miko is definitely better in the final version, but the idea of a horror slice of life in a cutesy way is much better – especially regarding Shiori – than this. As much as I love gloomy stories, the author kinda half-assed the melancholy.
Either way … have I mentioned I hate Shiori?
Forces her to reveal her scars and then has the audacity to say she didn't force her. Right.
The fact that this scene was made romantic bothers me even more.
Ayame was a cool character tho. Too bad Shiori had to intervene. One more reason to hate that mermaid.
I hate to admit it, but Shiori's mermaid form does look beautiful tho.
My theory about Hinako's blood as revelaed in ch18:
Shiori is the voice that young Hinako heard. She gave her some of her blood to heal, as otherwise Hinako wouldn't have made it.
But why? Did she want to eat Hinako back then already and she simply didn't taste as good? Was she perhaps the one that let the car drown and ate her family?

I wanted to rate this 4 stars, because:
- Miko lives!
- the cover!
- It's getting more into the mystery, which always puts me into detective-mode and I LOVE making theories!
However, I don't like Hinako spending more alone time with Shiori, going yet on another date, and Miko can't join. I really don't ship these two (yes, I know they'll be endgame), and I hate Shiori. She's nothing but selfish.

As I said in my previous review: Poor Miko.
I don't like Shiori's character type. She's annoying.
Fighting about who 'owns' her, really? Fighting who can protect/eat her? As if Hinako has nothing to say in that matter!
And please, kitsune vs mermaid? Definitely choosing the kitsune here.

Could be a little more depressing, I feel like the author didn't give their all when it comes to melancholy.
But overall cool concept:
A mermaid who wants to eat a human and doesn’t let anyone else harm her because she’ll taste better if you wait a little, and a human who wants to die. Perfect relationship 👏
Does she mean “eat” as in actually eating or pussy eating as in sex? Just wondering, lol~
Love the “feeling underwater” as a metaphor for depression but also being part of the supernatural plot.
Great art.
I feel bad for Miko tho.

Episodic chapters about Akebi getting closer to her different friends – each chapter basically showed someone else.
It's really cute and heartwarming, but the fanservice is a little odd sometimes. Giving high school vibes at times.
That baking chapter made me really hungry tho.

I didn't know anything about this, found it on a yuri fanpage and therefore thought I'd be getting into another GL. But no – this is the other side of yuri, the CGDCT, kinda bait type. Which I don't mind for this story though, cause it plays in middle school and the characters are fairly young (around 12 I'm guessing).
It's very heavy on the slice of life, which I don't mind either, cause I'm a slice of life fan. Volume 1 spanned through around 3 days only, focusing on the slow life, enjoying every second basically.
The artstyle is quite unique with distinctive features – quite detailed, without being too detailed, still giving the characters a typical CGDCT flair. Although the characters appear quite elegant due to the style sometimes, that I was honestly a bit surprised to find this to be CGDCT. It's not like K-On or YuruCamp.
I especially love the colored pages with the watercolor technique – fits the sailor 'theme'.
(The cover is a bit of an odd choice though, also might be why I didn't think this was CGDCT at first.)
Due to it being so slow life, you can focus a lot on the characters. I like most of them so far, and want to know more about them. Akebi's lovely relationship with her younger sister is really cute, they've got each other's backs, while still teasing one another on a regular basis.
One of her classmates and her first friend in class, Kizaki Erica, might have developed a crush on Akebi, as she's often getting jealous. Perhaps it's a platonic crush, or it'll go into the GL direction after all?
I'm not fond of her father though. He's the typical, old-fashioned father who's not really aware of having kids, works far from home and only visits for short amount of times, and because kids grow so fast, he doesn't know how to act around them, is awkward about it and spends more time smoking outside, while the mother takes care of the household and also has a job. Too old-fashioned for my style, but as long as he doesn't appear much (proper yuri stories don't have male characters after all), I won't mind it.
Interested in where the story is gonna go, probably focusing on Akebi becoming the popular girl in school.

Most popular girl x most hated school president
Nagi is a slacker student who mostly goes to school to create a harem for herself.
Asako, on the other hand, is a very strict school president, who doesn't let anything slide.
So when Nagi finds out about a secret rule break from Asako, she promises to keep quietly only when Asako agrees to become her girlfriend.
~
I normally don't like arrogant characters, who are the most popular in school and try to woo yet another person into their harem. But I do like it when that other person doesn't let themselves be played with that easily, and instead tops Miss Popular when it comes to flirting!
You'd think Nagi has all experiences needed for that, but Asako just throws her off unexpactantly with pretty much everything. I love it when arrogant characters like Nagi get put into their place like this!
And the fact that they both have an agenda in this relationship. It's not just Nagi blackmailing Asako, Asako also is using her for her own goals. Toxicity is only nice to read when both sides do it equally. <3
It's even better that Asako is probably on the aro spectrum (I'm guessing demiromantic and/or maybe even quoiroromantic) and therefore has a bit of a Kuudere face when it comes to anything romance that Nagi has to offer. I love Kuudere vibes so much!! <3
I don't really ship them honestly, but the tropes so far have been used well, so I'll continue just for that.

That was … so anti-climatic.
The first half was great, really! Sweet, and less awkward, them just being together.
But then … what should've been a climax, was pretty much a rejection.
As much as I love melancholy, I did not like this. That was so off-putting, that I straight up stopped shipping them. And when there was a verbal confession at the end … I felt nothing. Niente. Nada.
Maybe the author wanted the confession to be realistic. Maybe it was never supposed to be the cliché romance. And hey, for a change, that is good! And yes, I love going off the norm. Today, however, it did not work for me.

OH MY GOD, no way, they were SO CLOSE, WHAAAAT!!
Ski trip isn't very common in (yuri) mangas, so that was a really cool setting for a change!
But – oh my god … these two are literally meant for each other. Both completely dense and hopeless.
Still, there was quite some progress!
And at least Kiyami appeared like an angel in some chapters, because seriously, what would they've done without her!
