A really good read. It does deviate significantly from what I thought it would be based on the dust jacket blurb, but that didn't actually hurt the story overall. However, it does not quite feel like a "centuries-spanning tale", due to some narrative choices. Still, I definitely recommend it. Rating 4/5.
