I liked the idea a lot more than I liked the actual book. TikTok was mentioned A LOT and frankly any mention of social media has become my number one ick in contemporary romance.

I’m not sure how I managed to skip over reading this book or Kingdom of Ash, but it was a pleasant surprise to learn that I had two new S.J. Maas books to read. This book felt uneventful when compared to other books in the series but if I wasn’t rating it against other TOG books, it would probably be 5 stars. Looking forward to reading the final book soon.

This is one of the better romances I’ve read this year and I am puzzled that it hasn’t been rated more favorably by readers. Typically I find that I am more critical than others. Maybe this one just didn’t get enough coverage on TikTok. 🙄🤪 I do think the author should have explained how someone with OCD that was primarily focused on germs could spend so much of their life in random hotels without issue. Especially when the character claimed to have bought new sheets monthly in their own home growing up. The math just ain’t mathing on that.

An entire book on girl math. I was amazed by how easily she could rationalize all her purchases in the midst of crippling debt. I was even more amazed by how cheap things were in the early 2000s. 😂 It is frankly too easy to spend money these days and nearly impossible to save it in this economy. I hope Becky is doing okay in 2023. 😅

3.5 stars. An interesting premise but I think it could have been executed better. Maybe if we got a clearer picture of their chance encounters before she went back in time? Or if they weren’t confined to the apartment? The plot just felt a little dull considering how extraordinary their circumstances were. When they finally did meet, it felt confusingly underwhelming if he had truly been pining for 7 years.

Extremely mid and overhyped. The author spent too much time on the wedding planning piece and left the romance underdeveloped in both the past and present POV’s. The love interest was gruff but lovable, but the MC read like a high maintenance workaholic with commitment issues that the author kept insisting everyone wants around. 😂 I’m not buying it. Run the other way Elliot!

The character voice felt inconsistent to me. They were 16 but seemed very young at some points and more like college students in others. As someone who reads almost a book a day, I also had issues with the journal. If my mother passed away and I was given her journal, you better believe I’m staying up all night to read it. Especially considering how many questions she had, it really didn’t make sense to me that she took so long to read it. Perhaps the author could have added in stronger emotional responses to reading what her mother wrote to account for the amount of time it took her to finish, but nothing like that was included in the book.

The worst romance I have ever read. Absolutely terrible.

The contrived drama near the end was pretty ridiculous. What an epically dumb reason to be mad at someone. 😆 Luckily for this author, I secretly want to live in the UK so I still enjoyed this.

This was a very slow build and it took me about 250 pages to decide whether or not I even liked the characters, but somehow the author pulled it off. I’m not quite sure where this storyline is going, but I’m invested in finding out. I’m hopeful that the pacing will pick up a bit now that the world building and initial framework has been established.
