Felt like I was missing key pieces of information to undersrand what was going on. It was like the novel started in the middle of the story. I got the hang of it eventually, however the separation of me as a reader from the plot made it a just okay read

Two years I let this book sit on my shelf untouched thanks to all the controversy and negative reviews surrounding it. At times I would glance at it and regret my decision of purchasing it when I would obviously hate it. Then I decided to bring it along with me to read on a trip this summer just to “get it over with” — but ended up actually enjoying it. Let me tell you no one was more surprised by these turn of events than me.

Firstly I’d like to say it’s horribly cringy at times (that one scene surrounding horse manure being one of those times,) yet its cringy parts juxtaposing the heaviness of the violent side of the plot makes it a more digestible read. Secondly I think the controversies surrounding the plot is vastly exaggerated. I do not agree that this book is romanticising abuse, nor is it a realistic representation of the experience most domestic abuse survivors have with leaving and moving on with their lives, although I tend to forgive CoHo for that considering she’s using her own mother’s story for inspiration. However, one could argue that CoHo’s behaviours and business moves outside of this book is a completely different and problematic story..

Either way I enjoyed this, sue me 🤷‍♀️

I never imagined I’d find vegetables as adorable as I did Garlic and her friends (yes, even Celery). Cute and cozy little read perfect for autumn

For such a short book it really dragged on. What was the point of this story? To me it seemed rather pointless if I’m honest. I understand the sentiments of other’s who have read this book but I’m struggling to find the brilliance of it nonetheless

Wish it had more pictures, felt like it only scratched the surface whereas I thought it would expand upon the original instagram account, but really it’s just a small extension of it. Some pictures seemed very random and almost a stretch to call Wes Anderson-esque. Overall I think the content of this book is somewhat surpassed by the content found for free on Instagram.

Some of the jokes made me chuckle but I wouldn’t say it’s hilarious or that it’s worth more than a light twitch of the mouth. However it’s cute in the whimsical Halloween type of way. I wish there were more of a clear storyline to follow though, I felt it ended a bit abruptly
