loved the ‘it was summer…’ repetition and the writing style in general. however it tended to overdo it at parts so points off for that. loved the use of 2nd person also

this book is about fairytales and this book IS a fairytale.

i just didn’t really click with it if i’m honest. it was just so easy. sure, Jack’s parents were homophobic assholes for basically the whole book but then they’re suddenly okay? they’re 18 and 19 in their first term of university and fall completely in love? and the sex scenes were also bordering cringe

but in the end i can see the strength in writing about a non traditional hero and i do think that this book is important, maybe not entirely for me, but for some people i’m sure this will make a difference. something i thought was particularly good was the whole revelation that you don’t have to fit into boxes, you can be a ‘contradiction’ because that’s you and you’re allowed to exist and thrive no matter how you identify on the gender spectrum.

very very good
i just don’t think it was as funny as boyfriend material which was really the highlight of the series for me
i LOVED the ending to this though, it seemed perfect for them

the ending broke me btw

Did not finish book.
i put this book down while eating breakfast because life is too short. i am continuously annoyed by the author’s writing. the digs on eating disorders, on ‘diversity’ ‘he’s the only gay’, the flatness of the characters and the fact that everyone was unlikeable

this marks the 3rd book by rainbow rowell i’ve dnfed after just reading for a bit x (after eleanor and park, fangirl)
going 0 for 3 here!!

my heart- it’s a mess.
I think I believe that they really had a rare relationship and friendship, and I think there were probably romantic feelings involved as well. it doesn’t matter how they loved each other because this is a story of human love on the front line. maybe they were lovers, and I’d like to think they were lovers, but ultimately that doesn’t change anything for how much they became a part of each other throughout this books.
it’s difficult to quantify how internally distressed this made me, at wars, at our inability to learn from our mistakes, and every time I read ‘they think it’ll be over by Christmas’ I could have cried.

this is also really petty, but i have an immense hate for the cover and i literally would never have picked it up had it not been on sale. make better covers. literature deserves to be represented by art that doesn’t require hiding away. (it just doesn’t WORK)
