Molly is so extremely unlikable and judgemental. She had zero redeeming qualities she constantly openly judges Alex and is like "you look like someone who cant read classics" "you look like someone who doesn't love her gf cause you're flirty" "you look like you're obsessed with body weight" called her a dumb slut bimbo for like 16 chapters. I wish I sympathised with Lucy more by the 75% mark. I feel like your enjoyment depends on how badly you can feel for Lucy but I got tired of her dramatic ass 🙄
Love Susannah though that's my girl

This book is like having a friend that's too obsessed with men get into the worst situationship and they send u hour long vms about how miserable it is but they never fucking learn. You kinda hate them and also pity them. And because of that pity you can't quite drop them. That's what I felt about this book. Maybe one day I'll drop that friend. Maybe in that way I'm just as bad as Frances huh. I'll give it to miss Rooney, these charachters are insufferably human.

Soft dnf. The characters felt like caricatures and it wasn't a very broad view. Her childhood is going on for too long and all the other characters around her aren't given any humanity. I wanted a nuanced portrayal of 16th century Italy not read a Cinderella retelling set in Tuscany.
