Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Publishing, and my bookish Hive for the chance to read and review The Dead Come to Stay. I liked this one so much more than book one — mostly because I already knew the characters and felt way more invested this time. Jo continues to accidentally end up near dead bodies (lol), but I kind of love that for her. The cozy mystery vibe is exactly what I needed — twisty but not too tense. Also, the chemistry between her and the male lead picked up and I’m so here for it. I really appreciate how Jo’s neurodivergence is shown as a strength. The extra side mysteries kept things moving, and the pacing worked better for me than book one. Definitely continuing the series.
dark funny

Okay sooo… this was entertaining, messy, and chaotic—in the best way. It mostly felt like a 3.25–3.5 read until that ending. That last section? Yeah, it did something.

I still don’t fully get the whole “darkie” thing or why it mattered plot-wise. The race system was interesting but kinda confusing—I wanted more clarity without feeling like info was just being dumped. It’s a trilogy, though, so maybe it’ll unravel better later.

What’s gonna keep me going? The backstory. The mystery. Her mystery. Their mystery. I’m definitely curious enough to keep going.

adventurous challenging emotional funny

Gave this 4.5 stars (rounded up). The magical school setting with a 29-year-old MC was everything. I loved the trials, slowburn tension, found family themes, and mysterious MMC. Pacing dragged slightly in parts, but overall? A win for romantasy lovers.
adventurous dark mysterious tense medium-paced

Grave Birds was such a wild ride! It’s got magical realism, strange occurrences, buried secrets, and mysterious new people all wrapped into one spooky, small-town mystery.

The plot twist at the end got me GOOD, and I loved how everything tied together.

The pacing was solid and the atmosphere was chef’s kiss. Read it in a day. Highly recommend if you like mystery with a paranormal edge.
