I love how dark and graphic and violent this book is. Cosby really leans into those elements and pulls them off so well. There is a real masculine energy in the book. The pacing was a little slow and the way the plot is structured I felt like I was miles ahead of the book and the message (and the reveal). The slower pace was due to a lot of repeated information.

This whole situation is so fucked up. The books covers the pollution well and does a good job to incorporate personal stories to hit the human interest angle. Parts felt long or like i was ahead of the story since it follows a pretty standard narrative nonfiction expose kind of arc. Very straightforward. Very clear. Strong work.

I liked this book in theory and especially for younger readers who don't know a ton about the internment camps. I do think that it felt choppy in spots and glossed over a lot of the history/politics of the moment. I wanted more in some places.

When the book started I thought I wouldn't like it, the intro gave a lot away and I wasn't sure how Cohen would flesh out the meat of the book, but he did and I ended up really liking it. He writes a biography of Jennifer Dulos that is so compelling and then at the end gets to the marriage and the crime. He handles the children with respect. There are observations and insights into wealth that I appreciated. The author inserts himself a litlte bit too much into the book at the start, but overall I found it very good.

Wow. So Johnson & Johnson sucks and has been sucking for decades. This one is a major eye opener. A bit redundant in spots but mostly very good and keeps you interested to see how bad J&J will be this time.

I wasn’t sure what to expect here, I have never seen the movie, but was mostly pleased with the book. If I’m being real some of the plot was a little confusing for me, like why were people doing these things? However, the writing is so smooth and propulsive, and I loved the humor that is infused throughout. I guessed some of the twists but felt like it came together with things I didn't see coming. It reminded me a lot of my dad who would’ve been a teenager in California when the novel was set.

I really liked this book. The first 2/3 are stronger than the ending. It is a wild story and Elmhirst does a good job building the suspense. Overall a quick and super enjoyable read.

This is a beautiful grief memoir. It is focused so much on thinking around death and suicide and less around feeling (by design). I loved that shift in approach. The writing is gorgeous and the way she interacts with other art objects is moving.

I was surprised by how much I liked this book. It’s a very good modern coming of age protest novel. It packs a lot in but doesn’t feel over stuffed. The pacing is a bit slow at the start but it picks up. Loved the cultural references for young people to dig into.

This book is such a gift to young people to reflect back on the pandemic (or learn about it). Really good embodiment of different voices. A loving offering. Some style choices felt too heavy handed or tidy. Overall a sweet and tender look at covid nyc.
