If you would like to a further in depth review I have a review on YouTube. TreeBeard Reviews: The Shadow of the Gods, Book one of the Bloodsworn Saga by John Gwynne https://youtu.be/oj7q_sOcpXw
Well what to say about The Shadow of the Gods, oh man what a book. I’m really glad I picked up this recommendation and gave it a chance. This is the first John Gwynne book I have read and it did not disappoint. First few praises I need to get off my chest are praise to this wonderful violent magic filled world Gwynne has created in the Bloodsworn saga. Second, I love Orka and Varg, these two characters kept me captivated throughout the whole book, I loved Varg especially. Vargs growth and personality evolved so much over the story, he’s such an underdog story, I love it.
The only negatives I can think of was that Elvar wasn’t as an engaging POV character, however that would be hard paired with Varg and Orka. Lastly, some of the repetitiveness of the combat. Let me clarify, I loved all the combat but it was more of the beginning of combat with such lines as “Orka drew her axe and sacs”. That got a little repetitive but it’s such a minor thing. I loved this book highly recommend, cannot wait for the next!

What to say about Mort? For a more detailed review please check out my video: Mort, Discworld #4 by Terry Pratchett- TreeBeard Reviews https://youtu.be/GXGaHYrDe2s . I believe this is the first book where Terry finally hits his stride with the Discworld. The Discworld is much more formed and the characters especially Death really begins to take the shape he will maintain throughout the Discworld series.
So Mort, what a fun book. This book is a great quick read and would be a great place to start for anyone getting into Discworld and Terry pratchett. It’s a very tight story that gives you everything you want, teenage angst and drama, Death getting drunk, mystery, suspense, and world altering consequences for one minor change. I do like how Terry does emphasize the significance of life and how the difference of one life can change the lives of many.
This is a very enjoyable book, you can’t help but love the characters of Mort, Death and of course Deaths horse Binky. Highly recommend that everyone should give this one a read.

For a full review please check out my video Men at Arms, Discworld #15 by Terry Pratchett- TreeBeard Reviews https://youtu.be/82OVTAATtYI . Wow, what a book. I loved Guards! Guards! when I read it but I have to say Men at Arms tops it. This book had me on the edge of my seat and I could not put it down. This is not just a city watch book, it is Carrots book. He really came into his own as a character. I love the growth and depth this character achieved in this book. I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy more characters being added to the watch, but I loved the new additions Detritus, Cuddy and Angua, excellent additions to the nightswatch and they all fit into their own perfect place. The biggest pull for this book is the mystery and seeing the watch investigate. 5/5 stars, love this book, love the city watch. Can’t wait for Feet of Clay!
