"I felt so very old. At less than twenty-five, before everything that came after, I had no idea how long life was."

Listened to this on audiobook while annotating on my Kindle off and on and the writing blew me away. It's so poetic and beautiful. The way the story is told reminded me of a studio Ghibli film, meaning if you want a fast story WITH action, it will not be here. The author takes their time to tell this story, and it was hard for my neurodivergent ass, but it was well worth it.
Because that ending??? Okayyy...bc why no one told me this shit was lowkey sad asf

The audiobook narrator, Cindy Kay, did a very good job of bringing this story to life. Their voice was very soothing and suited the story. It truly captured the feeling of being told a story by someone;
in this case, by rabbit especially.
I definitely would come back to just relisten to the audiobook for a relaxing time, or if I couldn't sleep.

This was an interesting start, I like Wei Wuxian he funny asl. However, idk if it's the prose or the translation but how the sentences are written is hard to read.

"It's easy to think there's monsters in the woods when the woods are more than happy to let you die."

Haunted by the family rivalries of past and present, our main character Miles gets ambushed in the woods at a party. After waking in the hospital, he starts seeing faces from the past.

I enjoyed how the book tackled trans and aromantic identity! It felt relatable and captured my own experiences so well! When reading about Miles's character I felt like I was looking in a mirror. The way AJW wrote about the MC being neurodivergent truly spoke to me, especially
the scene where Miles describes how hard it is for him to shower.

Something I didn't like was how surface-level the book felt at times, but I feel that's just something that comes with any young adult book since it introduces teens to different topics and ideologies. So if you usually read ya it won't be noticeable!
Miles my socialist king<3

Lastly, something I really adored was the nuance of living in a more conservative area in the U.S. and how sometimes the people around you may suck, but at the end of the day, it's still home to you. The friendships and supernatural elements were some of my favorite parts of this story as well. Learning more about Miles's family history truly captured my attention.

thank you, NetGalley for the arc

Literally my fucking fav comfort book. If you're thinking of passing this up because of the age rating, DONT its amazing for all ages. The book was wayyy better than the film and I wish the film
kept Howl as a dramatic brat
. Also Calcifer, Michael, and Sophie>>>. This book is peak meandering and vibes.
