I would give this book 6 stars if I could. The imagery that got me was bare feet against elementary school cafeteria floor--I could feel the cold of the green floor at the cafeteria at Ke Kula o Lai'e and hear the voices on aunties and uncles.

I smiled throughout the chapter listing local foods and cried at the line predicting the character coming home to an independent Hawai'i.

It’s no wonder the Blaine Tuellers like this book so much: 11 kids who love their parents despite maybe taking the commandment to multiply a little too far. I’ve never heard a more apt description of my dad than uber humble except cocky about the weirdest things.
