this is such a weird and difficult book to place because on one end it was written with  such talent and inspiration i think you can feel how much work she put into this novel that you cannot help but to applaud it but all the same is it dark, twisted, and so uncomfortable at moments it’s hard to stomach.
i think it was frustrating but also eye opening to the perspective of someone so enthralled with their family and the trust they place into them and i think it shows how selfish people can be when they are only given so many options,
after i finished i read “the juniper tree” which is was inspire by and if you are picking that for reference i think you can already see how dark you can expect it to be, but i think she tied the myth in well and mixed it in with her own style of writing it was nice to see.
in the end i think this is a hard book to love but an easy one to appreciate.

what an absolutely enchanting book to get lost in, the storytelling, the character development, the slow burner, the imagery all went absolutely above my expectations, this book was such an exciting experience not only did she write a story but she wrote a whole other story inside of it, ugh HER MIND!!! the only thing i didn’t like was how everything wrapped up in literally one chapter where as i prefer to see it come together more subtly over time,,,,but that’s just me, even still completely loved and will rave about this book <3

i must preface this by saying that stacey mcewan is definitely climbing the ranks of my favorite authors, she is able to make you feel the exact emotion she has intended which i must say is an art in itself, i enjoy reading her writing so much more than i ever expected and that’s only part of what makes these books so amazing to read. although this story was a lot more plot building than anything i still really loved being back in this world  with these characters, at times it was slow and a bit tense but i think thats another way you feel connected to the story and the anxiousness of the mcs, also i’m a sucker for self sacrifices and this one was so beautifully executed i couldn’t even be mad about it, im am so excited for the last book i already know this series is going to leave such an impact on me<3
