matabot me sacó sonrisas en varias ocasiones y también tiene sus momentos tiernos, la verdad es que lo disfruté bastante! he de decir que me gustó mucho el toque tenso de misterio que hay hacia la mitad y que toda la lectura se hace muy amena en general. el final creo que es de las cosas que más me gustaron y me hace querer los demás libros así que... es lo que se viene!

me sorprendió con lo oscuro que se volvió hacia el final (no lo esperaba). y, aunque me gustó, y me gustó todo el misterio a su alrededor, la resolución fue un poco débil.
a pesar de todo, fue una lectura tranquila e interesante, aunque no acabé de conectar del todo con los personajes. el concepto de las puertas me gustó mucho y me habría gustado ver más variedad entre los niños del internado. hace un buen trabajo como prólogo, me plantearé leer los siguientes libros para ver esos mundos!
a pesar de todo, fue una lectura tranquila e interesante, aunque no acabé de conectar del todo con los personajes. el concepto de las puertas me gustó mucho y me habría gustado ver más variedad entre los niños del internado. hace un buen trabajo como prólogo, me plantearé leer los siguientes libros para ver esos mundos!

me gusta mucho cómo escribe tj klune, porque hay como un aire fantasioso y simple de cuento en su estilo y le da un aire muy característico y casi caricaturesco. este libro tiene mucho cariño, empatía y cuidado en sus palabras y es lo que lo hace relucir -- pero también comete el error de resultar un poco superficial al exponer las cosas en bandeja tan explícitamente a través de diálogos, en vez de mostrarlo con más sutileza, algo que con esta temática y ambiente creo que podría haberle beneficiado mucho.
aun así, uno le pilla mucho cariño a los personajes a lo largo de la historia y, personalmente, al igual que con "la casa en el mar más azul", me gusta mucho cómo se lleva el romance. no voy a mentir y diré que soy una gran entusiasta del "slow burn", por lo que cae de cajón que este libro me iba a gustar. la delicadeza con la que se lleva la relación de hugo y wallace es lo que la hace tan bonita y nunca da la sensación de que surge de la nada o que no exista química.
en resumen, ¡me ha gustado bastante! habría preferido un tratamiento menos explícito de ciertos temas o escenas, pero es un libro que te deja el corazón calentito y que irradia mucha empatía y buena intención ❤

como siempre, me encanta leer sobre el lenguaje de las flores
me gusta mucho lo pequeñito que es este libro y sobre todo como dedica dos páginas por flor, una de ellas una ilustración a lo art decó super preciosa que retrata cada flor
no está solo centrado en el lenguaje victoriano, lo cual agradezco porque hay un mundo mucho más allá de ello y, sobre todo, anterior - como en Japón, con los samuráis.
me gusta porque es una perspectiva multicultural que me faltaba un poco

i bought this book as a reference/research for my dnd character, who uses the language of flowers to communicate. he has a book about it and this one was great, super detailed and easy to manage; its exactly how i imagined the book to be. the illustrations are beautiful yet realistic and i love how it also adds details about beliefs and folklore.

este libro es precioso en todos los sentidos. es increíble como en cada frase, en cada párrafo, ninguna palabra sobra. es prácticamente poesía y la narrativa evoca imágenes vívidas, preciosas y difíciles de olvidar. es un cuento de hadas en toda regla - hasta los propios personajes son conscientes de las reglas del mundo en el que viven, las reglas de héroes y princesas, villanos y brujas, unicornios, tan bellos como distantes a todo lo que conocen. tan inalcanzables.
no es una simple historia bella y vacía, el viaje trae consigo cambio y crecimiento y es gracias a los personajes que acompañan a la unicornio que esta historia resulta tan mágica.
es hermoso y, a la vez triste, ver cómo la mortalidad y humanidad que rodea a la unicornio cambia su existencia para siempre.
me he enamorado completamente de este libro y he sentido la magia en cada página

The Saturday Night Ghost Club by Craig Davidson

i'd say a 4 is fitting for my experience with this book.
i think i did expect something a bit different, maybe more focused on the ghosts and the like, a real mystery unveiling with the unknown and stuff. the story was filled with urban legends and ghost stories that did link to reality somewhat - and i did like it, however i wanted a bit more of it.
the coming of age aspect was one of my favorite parts of it all. you could feel the love for cal pouring on every single word of this book. it certainly softens your heart and i ended up wanting nothing but peace and happiness for him by the end of the book.
this book was more about the ghosts, sorrows and horrors of the past more than actual ghosts. a real, terrible story mixed with fantasy... because the memory is often kind to us when the worst comes to be. the long you read, the more you realize how filled with melancholy this story is.
as for the writing, i found it beautiful. it was almost poetic and often philosophical. the memories from that summer feel "hazy" through the words, almost as if they were a dream. im sure thats how those memories worked for jake baker, after all. the interjections with jake, as a neurosurgeon, relating his medical experiences to those he lived that summer were one of my favorite parts, too.
the reason i dont felt this book as a 5 star, however, is that there was something - i cant exactly pinpoint what - that felt off to me about how dove was written, or maybe how she was viewed through jakes eyes. its probably a personal sensation, more than anything, but...
anyways.
