Great premise. Terrible execution. The writing was bad and very "tell don't show". Things went by so quickly. This would be much better if it was longer. The relationship, all 5 paragraphs of it, was good but really not enough.
This book is definitely ending up in my favourites. It's so beautiful it actually made me cry. Evan and Clara are perfect. It just has all the best tropes that are all done amazingly and work so well together. I can't recommend this enough.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

This was supposed to be funny and it absolutely delivered. Goddamn hilarious. Got to be one of the funniest things I've ever read. The smut also wasn't that terrible?
Lost a star cause I thought the PSL would become sentient, but nah girl was really thirsting for a cup of coffee.
Barely liked the plot but forced myself into it cause it was a Christmas book but both the characters know they're queer before hand and that's not my thing so I can't even make myself read anymore. I'm suffering.
This was an incredibly well written, suspenseful, edge of your seat book that took you along for the ride and have you enjoy every minute of it. Kaitlin is a complete badass and the characters overall are just amazing. Very fun book.
This book was incredibly cute and sweet. The relationship between Petra and Char was a beautiful slow burn that pulled in my heart strings. I loved them so much.
The first third of the book though was a bit slow to start. Very heavy focus on horses which I know nothing about and I feel like you have to be a horse girl to really enjoy that section. Then the romance actually started and the horses took a backseat and acted as the backdrop of the romance which worked incredibly well as someone not into horses.
The prose is a tad bad at times but it's honestly still very good and doesn't harm the reading experience at all. There's also a straight romance in the latter half of the book which got WAYYYY too much screen time. Totally unnecessary IMO cause it's not like any of us care. Ended up skipping those chapters. Wish they spent that time developing Petra and Char's relationship instead. Would've made this so much better.
It took me 3 gruelling years to read this book cause I dreaded it everytime I went to pick it up. This was just terrible. Like the writing was great, beautiful a lot of the time. If you cut out like 3/4 of the book this would be at least a 4 stars but all those beautiful moments are just separated by trash. This isn't a romance and it can't seem to make up its mind on whether or not it wants to be. Like Carol can just be so awful to Therese that I don't even want them to be together. She's so hot and cold and seems to just string her along, using her when she feels like it and tossing her to the side when she doesn't. And Therese just lets her. She's a love-sick puppy that will abandon her whole life to follow Carol to the ends of the Earth even with how poorly she's treated.
I think the problem with this is that I was expecting Carol, but this had basically none of the charm that movie had. If I had come in knowing the relationship was like this, I would never have bothered. Maybe it's some peoples thing and more power to you. My issue is that Carol represented it in a whole other way which is what I was expecting and I got far from it.
This is preliminary as I just finished the book. I need to collect my thoughts and research Carol before I make a full review. RTC.
This my first real horror book and it was terrifying but I loved it and want more. That small town vibe with dark secrets delving into the supernatural was so gripping. I loved it.
