This book has gorgeous prose and is more like a poetry book than a novel. I struggled at first with the characters, as many are anthropomorphized, so it was sometimes a challenge to figure out which characters were human and non-human. Once I understood the flow, this book moved me, made me laugh and reflect. There is a lot of Anishnaabe language (the author is Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg) which can be challenging, but it also adds a depth of research for any that do not speak the language. I learned a lot about the Anishnaabe peoples of Canada while reading and looking up various things from this book.
