Sometimes twists are used as a cover for a poor plot. Although things are more unbelievable at the end then what is on the surface, the plot isn't bad. In fact the final twist might detract from the story.

Reminded me a bit of A Simple Plan except the protagonist is a lowlife. I'm not sure if any of the characters are decent or they all seem off because I'm seeing them through the eyes of a horrible person.
