This book took me a little while to get into. There is a crowd of characters that I had to learn the connections between and understand their views of the other characters. Once more things began to develop into the plot it became more enjoyable as well as confusing. I would advise that you keep a pen and paper next to you if you want help solve this case alongside the narration, if not then just reading along watching them uncover the truth is just as fun. Near the end of the book (100-200 pages left) I really got into it and genuinely started to connect the dots myself. Once I had finished the book I had really enjoyed reading it, despite the rocky start. I would advise anyone who want to read this to maybe give it a chance to get going and not to DNF it too quickly. Overall a solid read, well enjoyed and looking forward to reading The Christmas Appeal in the winter!
I had never read the books before this, but I have previously watched all the films. In comparison to the films I love this book so much more. The characters are so well written and I felt such a connection with each of them individually. Every scene with Rue broke my heart, especially knowing what happens in the films. SPOILERS AHEAD! The scene where we the readers and Katniss find out about Peeta's amputation I was in SHOCK, why was this never in the films!! The end line of the book however left me wanting more, you'll never guess what I am reading next!?
As a historian (in training) I have read PLENTY of history books, however I noticed I have never really expanded my library past European history. Due to current events I thought now is a netter time than ever. I think it's vital to learn not only our own history but also the history of other countries and cultures. I cannot stress enough how informative this book is, it gives you an eye opening look into a history that is so hidden due to oppression.
OH MY GOODNESS!! I cannot believe it took me so long to get around to reading this book, it was nothing short of incredible. It was like an incredible mix of The Marauders meets Agatha Christie. I was lucky enough to read this alongside two of my friends (who had previously read the book) which such fun, it allowed me to discuss my ideas and theories with people who knew exactly what I was talking about. Every time I thought I had it figured out there was another twist, another discovering, I could not stop reading this book it was impossible to put it down.
It felt like a classic that I just had to read, it was exactly what I expected. The plot and message of the book was not disguised AT ALL. I am glad to say now that I have read it but I cannot say I will be re-reading it.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

Where to start with this book! I have been meaning to read this book for FOREVER but I never got around to it. I also had the fear that because it was a classic that it would be just that. I don't have anything against classics per-say but I am not a massive fan of them. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved this book. The characters were so well written, I fell in love with Harker (and I must say I loved Reinfield's character just as much). Honestly it was a great book!
