I wish I had read this book in middle school when I hadn't yet developed the standards to question all the lofty pretentiousness. Nonetheless the relationships were suitably dramatic even when the plot bored me.
Short and sweet and hopeful with really vivid characters. I liked this one.
I have no issues with this book, the story and characters just didn't really end up pulling me in. I don't see this story sticking around in my brain very long. Interesting enough in the moment though.
Musings on the nature of consciousness and belonging, a very atmospheric setting, and a compelling moral quandary at the center of it all; I loved this book. It's exactly the kind of character-driven SF I always hope to find, and I look forward to reading more of Nayler's writing.
