cute & fun & fluffy— all of the slightly eye roll inducing zaniness & sweetness of an aged up dcom, with just about as much depth. overall felt a little… pandering? but fine if i turned my brain off a lil

still a little confused by how/why it’s 400-something pages

is it cringe to say this was an eye-opening read for me? much to think about. a portrayal of trans experiences that felt less filtered for an outsider's perspective. raw & vibrant & complex & human—messiness, flaws & all.

this, to me, is the pinnacle of romance. fellas, is there anything sexier than irregularly & stiltedly exchanging existential screeds with someone who is unavailable, offering glimpses into depths of your psyche you yourself are still learning to navigate & cultivating a false sense of intimacy until you both fall in love with idealized Concepts of one another, all the while knowing that these Concepts don't really exist outside of your virtual correspondences, then choosing to preserve said Concepts over building relationships with the actual humans behind them due to fear of confronting not only your own unavailability but also the seemingly inevitable disappointment that comes with Reality being unable to compete with the fiction of your imagination, and ultimately parting ways unresolved?

upon further introspection, i am now wondering if my love for this book is related to the possibility that i may perpetually be stuck in my "insufferable, faux-profound & vaguely solipsistic college freshman discovers the word 'sonder'" phase

goddamn the CRAFTSMANSHIP of the writing on this one. wow. this story was the sort of compelling that slowly creeps up on you. edie's voice was so blunt & at times off-putting— poetic in a strange & uncomfortable & undeniably evocative way. i was constantly caught off guard, pausing to really chew on images.

also i can't stop thinkign about the clown school interview scene? a lot the humor & cultural references in this book might be for a particular demographic— i don't know if they'll land for everyone, but oh boy did they hit for me.

having trouble parsing out which of my thoughts on this book belong in a review & which ones should be saved for a future therapist
