The book was great! Took me a while to get into it after binging TOG. It had a good mix of story and character development.

The graohic audio version of this book was good but not great. The music they played during the softer scenes were a bit strange. I undertand this is an adaptation and not read word for word so some of ghe scenes feels like it goes from 0 to 60 with mood changes. The action scenes were great with all the background noises.

This is one of those books where I am not a fan of the MC and their inner monologue. The writting seems fine and is entertaining enough but the main character is really not my cup of tea.

So she leaves the main love interest in College without explaining herself because she doesnt want to communicate and repeat her parents relationship pattern. She is aware that it was a mistake to leaves thing like that. She comes back and is instantly back in love with the love interest despite having netflix and chill with her boss and seems to want to be attracted to the said boss because hes a safer option(?). But she still also wants the love interest. But she also wants to leave the small town where the love interest lives. And she also dream of the life that could have been. This is the same sort of back and forth that is happening at slightly above 50% of the book now.

And the main love interest is strange too. He is trying to move on but also trying to slightly seduce her so he can get her out of her system. He is trying to date someone else so he can get the main character out of his system. Theres a large part of the town ( including the main characters dad) that resents the main character for breaking the love interests heart. But the love interest is defending her and doesnt seem too affected and is clearly back in love with her.

Both characters are just wishy washy and aren't great people. The book I guess is interesting enough and I also really dislike DNfing books. I am trying to speed through the audiobook and 2x times so I can get this over with.

I have a hard time rating books of main protonganist I dont like. I read the first in the series as well and remember nearly nothing of it other than also not quite liking the miscommunication trope that seems to be a part of this series.

Notes at 59% of the book.

The main character just kissed the love interest because they both wanted to and her thought process is "its going to be harder when I leave him a second time". Not if, but when.  I really cannot emphasize how much I dislike people like this in real life. Either move on or stay put.

Notes after 61%. The temptation  to DNF is so strong. So the main character says she is goi g to leave him and hes dissapointed and the next chapter starts with him being excited they get to spend time together. There's clearly a disconnect.

Notes after 67%.

The conversation after the coffee shop with Nelly when the two main character bumps into each other. Its like the author held a gun to the characters head and forced them to want each other but really they both know they shouldn't.

Notes at 70%

The main character is thinking " I wasn't thinking at all". After being surprised, not realizing that the town may dislike her for staying away for 5 years without keeping in touch. How is that surprising. What everyone is doing and thinking feels so disconnected and non sensical.

Notes 74%

So shes waiting for him to ask him to stay even though they agreed to keep it casual and she is going to leave. She wants someone who would fight for her but she cant even communicate what she wants. Its just wildly immature and short sighted. And the merry go round of, if i stay, if i go, i love him, i love him not, i can endure the town, i cant stand the town keeps going.

Notes 92%

So in order to make sure she knows he is seen as serious and fighting for her, he brings a ring to a public event so he can propose after not really making it official. They had a few kisses. The town forgave her after her asking for it in one meeting, again in public. This feels just strange. Maybe I need to live in a small religious town to understand.

Notes after 100%

Im glad it's over. If you like small town romance, miscommunication ( or no communication) and second chance, this might be up your alley. The characters were just frustrating.

Main narrators voice does not distinguish between characters. I can't tell when the main characters are talking or her brother. Similar issue with book 1.
