I really enjoyed this dreamlike start of The Dark Tower series. I understand little of what is going on at the end, but I am not sure I am supposed to at this point. Definitely going to be starting the second book tonight!

Such an improvement on the first book, which I already enjoyed. Definitely more grounded and less dream-like, though alive with fantastical situations and ideas! Really love how the ending was pulled off, it honestly blew me away. I cannot wait to start the next book later today!

I am pretty sure Jurassic Park was the first adult book I ever read, sometime after the movie released in 1993. I just finished re-reading it tonight and it holds up, just like the movie!

I enjoyed this book overall and it did a good job of trying to capture the magic of the first one but it still wasn’t as good. Love it all the same but it doesn’t reach the high that Jurassic Park does. It was a thoughtful way to extend the story and I did enjoy the new characters, though I thought a certain character changed a bit in demeanor (in a way I am not sure they would) from the first book. Great dinosaur action and brought those very tense, you can’t put down this book scenes back!

Claustrophobic and weird in the best way this novel is like if you mixed a noir type story with The Southern Reach trilogy. It may not hit the highs that that trilogy but it stands well on its own. Definitely worth reading and I cannot wait to read more of VanderMeer’s work!

This sequel moved a tad slower than the first book but I came away really enjoying my time with it.

Overall, I enjoyed this series! Acceptance was a satisfying end but much like the books before it I will have to look up what everything means. If I ever revisit the series in the future, I may give this (and the previous book) a higher score but as I am just venturing back into reading this series is pretty dense and vague. It was hard for me to stay focused and to try and fully understand what was happening chapter to chapter. I think this done on purpose and is supposed to be the reader’s experience too. It really is quite a different sort of horror, but it is still so good! My recommendation is if you’re up for three dense, dreamlike experiences, and have been the avid reader for awhile, go for it. Otherwise I would breakup the book with other books in between.

The disturbing true tale of the abuse and murder of so many within the Osage Nation. I never heard of this until seeing the trailer for the film coming out later this year. I feel so terrible for what was done to these folks. Absolutely moving and haunting, I can’t believe what I read. Heartbreaking.
