What a roller-coaster of a book.
This has been on my shelf for 25 years and I only finished it thanks for a buddy read.

I use Catch-22 ALL the time so I had to read it eventually.

It's bonkers, genuis, horrific, comical, cringe, offensive, thought provoking and very long! I struggle with the length, definitely could have cut 300 pages in my mind.

The tangents, so many tangents and the overly descriptive writing was absolutely stunning but also jarring.

The white American masculinity was hard at times to read. But it's 61 years old and a previously banned book so I went with it. There were so many shocking scene which will stay with me for a while.

I didn't I loved it but I loved it because I know it's a conversation starter of a book. Catch-22 hey.

I need a rest after this one. 5⭐

I liked Molly and I liked the way she was written. The detail of her view of the world. Although there was a twist, I wanted a bigger juicer one. A quick read.

I read this just thinking this is basically the same as Richard Osman's book. It is VERY similar. Like someone copied your homework. Haha. Cosy crime which got a bit silly at times. Police asking 3 elderly women to solve the crime based on their nosiness. I preferred the comedy of the main elderly characters in RO books. Easy to read.

We all need a reminder about self love, right? Cute little book of stuff you know but don't do, stuff you might not know but should do and generally reminder that you are amazing. I'm here for it😍✌🏼

Did not finish book. Stopped at 43%.
Too many names & didn't feel like I was that bothered about any character if I could remember who they were.

Took me 3 attempts to read this. Completely unbelievable but yet this was Tara's life. Not much else to say. I did find myself thinking 'really, did that really happen' a lot of the time.

This has been on my shelf for 25 years! I finally got around to reading it and I know this is a very popular book. I have conflicting thoughts about it.
***Probably contains spoilers***
I really enjoyed the historical & descriptive writing about the geishas preparation, rituals & training.
Life was hard during the 1930s and post war but reading about exploition of these young girls by older women & men did give me an uneasy feeling.
I must remember it was written yonks ago so it's of its time and fictionalised from real stories told to a white American.
I was captivated at the start, page turning... then I got a bit bored, it was slow & it felt like filler.
And then that ending. Meh. I wanted it to involve her sister!
Anyway overall I'm glad I've finally read it and I want to go to Japan one day. 4⭐

Don't Laugh, It'll Only Encourage Her by Daisy May Cooper

Wasn't expecting her back story to be so sad. The Coopers had it pretty tough financially which isn't funny but yet Daisy was able to pick out the random shit that happened in her childhood & in her early acting career which was bloody funny. I smiled & chuckled. And I didn't know who her brother was. Well I never. A quick read! 4⭐ purely for all the swearing & awkwardness!
