An engaging read, through and through! The plot was a bit predictable at times, but I absolutely loved the main characters and the world that Avi Silver created. The astrology and worldviews Silver created for their fantasy world were interesting, and I look forward to reading the next book about Sohmeng!

Maybe it's mood today, but I finished reading this book and feel incredibly inspired in my creative pursuits. I highly recommend this book especially if you're interest in Chang's reflections on his culinary career, the world of restaurant culture in the past 20 years, and an honest discussion of mental illness.

I nearly put this book down without finishing it, but it was the only one I had with me on a weekend trip. I'm glad I finished it because the ending was actually quite good. However, I found the main character annoying for most of the novel. Mixed feelings all around for me!
