i read the midnight library about a year ago and really liked it, so i wanted to give this a try and it did NOT disappoint! i loved the concept of this book and the execution was better than i had hoped — if you love sci-fi but not action (and musings on the human experience in haig’s slower style; so many good lines to highlight) you will love this!!

i feel bad giving this only 3 stars, because i could really tell how much of herself lucy put into this book. i think my biggest qualm was that each passage jumped back and forward throughout time in her life, and i get why she had them interwoven, but it just made it harder for me to follow and understand; moreso, i found myself getting a little bored with the references to her groups of friends or future prolific writers she interacted with (although i’m inspired to check out their work now too). this book definitely provided me with an authentic perspective on the trans female experience from an older woman, which is something i had been lacking, but i think the content just didn’t catch my attention in the way i hoped it would.

incredibly beautiful writing and such an important perspective to read — especially concerning the possibility of another trump presidency. shows the devastating impacts of anti-immigrant policies alongside such an emotional portrayal of this young family. will definitely be reading more of zgheib’s works!

such an interesting read! i loved the style, but it had so much substance too. not sure how i felt about the ending, but worthwhile regardless.

i’m a few years late to the party but for once i fully believe the booktok girlies were RIGHT. soso beautifully written, and she brought multiple myths (that i already loved!) to new life.

wow. i’ll be thinking about this book forever ! heller is so funny and easily makes satires of incredibly complex world issues like war profiteering, corporate greed, etc. this is a classic for a reason — i fully recommend that everyone read this book.
