Even though the plot is despicable, it sheds light on the subject of the changes a human has to go through before he/she is in the place they wanna be, knowing better — knowing what's best for them. (Or that's how I perceive it) And this process, like in the book, can come out despicable, outrageous and weird.
Yet, the author doesn't much - or not at all - talk about such deep understandings, but just lays out the story, taking the metaphor for the reality, without so much as a relation. It strikes your imagination and leaves it unsteady with absurdity.
