At first the book starts slow, demonstrating the childhood of Natalie Clifford Barney. However, the book accelerates and becomes more exciting as she comes of age. By the end, I was utterly enamored with Miss Barney.

One of my favorite examples of testing how culture and technology passes on through generations, especially if that technology no longer exists within that culture.

I really enjoyed this book, not just because Ronson is a hilarious and relatable writer, but also because of the social questions he brought up in the book. Is mental illness as prevalent as one is lead to believe due to the current status of the DSM? Is psychopathy responsible for some of the social problems we have globally? Are there more psychopaths around us than we might believe? And are we as individuals concerned with our own mental health so much that we are placated by the outlandish behavior of others on reality TV? Ronson’s journey through these questions was really fun. I recommend this book. It was definitely entertaining if nothing else. However, I urge you to think on these questions as you read the book. Perhaps you will come up with your own conclusion.
