Part 1 Review
It's tough not to like this novel, it's engaging from the beginning and keeps getting more interesting with each chapter. The highs of this book aren't mind-blowing so far given it is still very much a setup part, but they are still quite entertaining and give a lot to the characters.
Kim Dokja is one of the best sly dog Protagonists I've seen, tricking everyone into his schemes and achieving his goals. That isn't to say he doesn't care about his party members, but he doesn't hesitate while using them. The last few chapters make him a lot more interesting, can't wait to see his conclusion.
Yoo Joonghyuk is another character I'm anticipating seeing more about, his growth in the last couple of chapters was interesting and his dynamic with Dokja keeps getting better. His struggles are quite compelling as well, I can see him getting a lot in the later parts.
Han Sooyoung is the last member of the main trio, and so far she hasn't done much so I can't really comment on her. She's cool and her relationship with Dokja is pretty good but that's it. I can't wait to see what she's got in store for me.
Other than that, so far I like the meta elements present in the story, talking about differences between a reader and a writer. Dokja and Sooyoung's conversation carries most of these. It's obviously going to play an important role in the themes of the story later on so I am looking forward to it.
Overall a well-done first book. It is nothing mind-blowing but it's still very entertaining with some of the best cast which gets enough moments and some good development. I can see it becoming one of my favorites in the later parts because most of the elements presented here are my core.

This Novel is abstract yet beautiful. The Slice of Life parts are just so well done I wish more authors could manage writing like that. Of course, I have tons of questions about what actually happened and all the answers are theoretical at best so I might give this another read soon. Being my first Murakami work I could say that I am interested in checking out his other works as well.

While I agree this book is thought-provoking, provides a sense of tension while reading and the well-done dystopian setting still holds up well to this day. I found very little plot progression in the first half, half of the lore provided was easy to guess and I saw the plot twist coming way early. But I still can't be harsh on it as it's pretty well done for its time and the final act has some of the best horrors I can ever find in a book.
