The book that made me fall in love with Claire Keegan’s works. I am now on a mission to read all her stories. I never knew about the history behind this book, and it really made me dive deep into a Wiki spiral. Her writing is also beautiful as it invites you to go on this journey with the characters so well, despite it being a super short read.
At first, I did not like it. And the more I read, the more I wanted it to end. But as I got to the end, I wanted more? It took me a little while after finishing the book to realise the beauty of this story and the characters. Ultimately, I found myself surprised at the way the story continues to unravel in my mind as I discover others going through the same journey as me on Reddit 🤓
Unfortunately, I did not find myself enjoying this one at all. The structure of the book is meant to be a collection of short pieces reflecting everyday objects and daily life. I felt nothing speaks to me and I couldn’t get into it. The writing is good, but perhaps the topic and structure is not my preference.
A lovely collection of short stories. I must admit, I am a big fan of Irish literature so I am a little biased here. I thought this is perfect for those looking for a quick read or for those who love reading during their commute. Thoroughly enjoyed it as I find myself wanting more.
Such an emotional read. Especially in light of current world events, it really brings you right to where it hurts the most - ordinary citizens slowly losing pieces of themselves as the conflict grows with no end in sight.
