You know… this book is exactly what you think it is: a why choose, sentient basters erotic romance.
It was quirky, emotional, spicy, goofy, and a very fun read. I really liked how it handled the sentient object concept and the catalyst for the interaction had me giggling.
However, I felt like the spicy scenes went on for a little too long and there was not a ton of variation to keep my attention the whole time. Frankly I got a little bored at that point; I read the first half in one sitting and then it took me over a week to pick it up again.
I also got the ick after reading “juices” and “meaty” so many times. I think I got severe second hand sensory ick just imagining how greasy it would all be and the smells of all the meat juices. To be fair, I gotta give credit where credit is due and if you can give me sensory ick from a book then those are some damn good descriptions.
Overall, if you are looking for a silly goofy spicy holiday themed novella that will have you feeling all kinds of discombobulated yet entertained, then I think you should absolutely give Basted a read! It had me cackling through to the end, which does in fact have an HEA!
