"Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."

Really an incredible book.
If I keep thinking about it, I might come back and give it 5 stars.
Such a heartfelt perspective and I loved the connection between the baby and Fonny.

How difficult is it to have clear communication? My goodness.

I love the snappy quick conversations and the sometimes silly descriptions.

I do not enjoy the unfinished thought narration that kept showing up. Using this as a method to keep the reader intrigued just did not work for me. We are hearing this from Violet's perspective, we should hear what she's thinking!

Anyways, I got through the whole book and I'm looking forward to the third if only to laugh at the unnecessary drama once more!

The descriptions were beautiful, the racism was not.

While Esther was rude and cynical throughout this book, it is important to note that Sylvia Plath was writing a sequel but that she killed herself before it was complete.

This is the season where I hit my quota on name memorization and begin to get confused. Still, incredible, would listen again!

It would have been so much better if either:
1. Henry and Alex had to break up in order to win the elections.
OR
2. Henry and Alex being outted caused Ellen to lose the elections.

It was so difficult to get into this book, I didn't care for the strangely poetic emails or the character's dynamics. Disappointing.

And the discussion on politics?! Like I read this hoping to laugh at the odd romanticizion of politicians... and I GOT that.

HOWEVER. I listened to the whole thing. I was convinced enough to want to know what happened next and I didn't know where the story was going. It wasn't obvious and I enjoyed that a lot!

This is my favorite book. Everything is perfect, from the art, to the dialog, to the dress designs. I love it.

This is a detailed beautiful book. It felt like I could have a conversations with the characters in real life. The only things that was a little off was the timeline.
