E. Hugo is a villain. She ruined lives to serve herself. I felt bad for her in the beginning when she was being abused by her husband but towards the end of the book, I found myself remembering that part of the book and smiling. It seemed to be the only justice served in this entire read. Evelyn Hugo a narcissistic, self-serving bitch. Read this book if you want to be pissed off.

I couldn't decide if it was the writing or the narration that caused me to cringe while reading/listening to this book. It turns out it's both. An author should not write a main character who has a specific culture that the author has absolutely no connection to. That lack of connection came through loud and clear. It was compounded by the woman they chose to narrate. Her fake Puerto Rican accent made me want to rip my ears off. I finished this book because I'm not a quitter but I would not recommend it. If you do read it, do not choose the audiobook!
