You need a pretty big suspension of disbelief just to get past the primary premise, but there are also numerous coincidences that push even further beyond that. Coupled with very willful manipulation of the reader's emotions, this is an extremely annoying book. Yet it was still an enjoyable read.

I think this book is worth reading, but I am undecided if I liked it or not.

I enjoyed the author's The Splinter in the Sky, but didn't care much for this book. The characters are unlikeable, and while there is a possibility that is deliberate, it wasn't done well enough if that is the case. Overall it is just a jumbled mess.
Also, I would probably call this more of a psychological thriller instead of horror, as it tends to be tagged.

The storytelling in this book is a radical departure from its two predecessors. It's still good, but I enjoyed it considerably less than the others.
