Jane finds herself in a new town, with a new job and a roommate she doesn’t like. While walking the neighborhood dogs, she meets Eddie. They both feel a spark and fall into lust quickly. Since Jane is running from her past she plans her next move until Eddie proposes. They seem like a match made for each other. But it turns out that Jane’s new fiancé’s wife was one to the two women that went missing that July. Trying to plan a life together while your partner grieves ends up messy. Especially while answers are coming to the surface.
This didn’t feel like a thriller for me. I consumed this is audiobook form, and maybe that’s why I didn’t get the effect I was hoping for. I feel like thrillers should be page turners and this didn’t do it for me.

I so badly wish I could rate this four stars, but it was such a slow burn for me. The last quarter of the book I truly enjoyed. The first parts were slow. But maybe that goes hand in hand with the life I spies, not all that fun most of the time. I wanted more of Eve’s story line from the beginning, but soon cherished Charlie’s growth.
I haven’t learned much about female involvement of war, so this did give me some insight into that world. I love a historical fiction that is based on truth. Women are still looked past in many ways in life, but this novel just proved that women are just as brave and smart as men- even in war.
I think I will read more from Kate Quinn and do really like this novel. I’m not sure 3 stars is enough, but the last quarter might make me change it to four. We shall see.

I wish I had read this book in middle school. This book had the power to really change the way people think. I hope it becomes a must read in schools, I know a lot of people could have used these words when we were younger.
