I took my time reading this book and I'm SO glad I did- I was a bit wary after reading other reviews that I would find the amount of characters overwhelming but I think this just made me pay more attention and give the characters the time they deserve. The descriptions were so vivid and vibrant and grotesque, and the conservative rural Scottish setting worked so well with the storyline.
If you love characters like Maeve Fly, you will absolutely adore Nancy!
Between the cover and the descriptions of this book as queer, punky horror, this book would absolutely be something I would run to buy if I saw it on a shelf. This is the kind of book that would make a marvellous movie, with its fast pacing, huge personalities, and the way it forces you to reflect on small-town mentalities and facing the past.

I received this as an e-arc from Netgalley. Overall I enjoyed this book, I loved the contrast of the obsession with wellness and clean eating against the gore and grotesque desperation to stay youthful. From the first chapter something is noticeably off with Sophia and this builds dramatically through the book, from her relationships with Dom and Richard to her acceptance of Tree's methods. I loved the flashbacks to Mona and how they contextualised her relationship with Dom, who appears to be everything Sophia is against. I would have loved to see Sophia commit to the darker side of her personality fully- I feel like the ending fell a bit flat for me, everything very conveniently went away.
The writing was medium-fast paced and I LOVED the imagery, the body horror aspect, the pretty-priviledge way Sophia explains away the problems at HEBE. I will definitely be interested in other books from the author, especially if they are as gross and well-written as this one.

This is one of the first books I've read in a while that has made me immediately want to grab the next one. It sets up so well for a series! I instantly loved the Bay witches' dynamic, I'm very much hoping the next books have more focus on the sisters' stories too, especially Rosemary's. I haven't been reaching for romance books a lot lately but this was the perfect mix of plot and romance.
