A study of language-as-identity and identity-as-language that, though published in 1966, feels fresher and more contemporary in 2020 for its still unique exploration of gender and  body mod subculture than so much of what is published now.  Reflective in its representation, inclusive in its overarching story, Babel-17 is what science-fiction of the 21st century should feel like, however forward-looking we like to think of ourselves now.
