I would liken this book to Twilight in that it’s entertaining and easy to read but lacks much depth and has a clunky writing style.

The relationship between the main characters was weak and seemed to come from nowhere. The plot was predictable and had too many holes to be forgivable.

In saying that I will still go on to read the next book as the plot is interesting and entertaining enough to continue but it won’t be a memorable book for me.

“a pawn is never a pawn. A pawn is a queen-in-waiting. All you need to do is find a way to keep moving forward.”

If you only read one book this year make sure it is this one!

Another book I got sucked into by all the hype and was bitterly disappointed.

It wasn’t a bad book but it certainly wasn’t anything I would rave about. The strategies were interesting but a lot of the plot points were predictable. The characters are difficult to relate to and so I didn’t care too much what happened to them. I’m interested enough to read the next in the series but I won’t be running for it.

This book took me by surprise. Being a fan of the ACOTAR series and seeing Nesta as a supporting character I had no interest delving into her being the main character as her personality was seemingly stand offish. In fact it took me several weeks to really get into this book as the first few chapters I was just really mad and uninterested in her journey.

Then it but by bit I started to realise this was a story about overcoming/combatting mental illness and suddenly I was better able to relate/empathise with the character and her journey and relationships she built were just beautiful.

Another wonderfully written story by Sarah J Maas

It’s a good story about fighting the patriarchy and exploring how oppression can be easily rooted into society. The diversity in characters is also fantastic however I think the plot is unoriginal and there are questions that were never properly answered.

There was a particular sci fi novel that my thoughts kept drifting to while I read this (I won’t mention the title to avoid spoilers) with a similar trope which I think did it better.

Overall I can see how people would love this book but for me I thought it was just ok. I would still recommend you read it to make up your own mind.

From Blood and Ash was just an ok book for me but now I see that it was building for this one. The first book was a little predictable but gave me a few surprises. For a “spicy” book the storyline was still the most interesting part, the spice just an added extra.

I’ve docked a star because there were a number of moments where Casteel presented some toxic masculine traits I couldn’t look past.

Usually when I rate a book so highly it’s because there was a plot twist I didn’t see coming, an allegory that I found compelling or it made me have all the feelings. The Bridgerton series has none of these things but I’m loving them all the same. Yes this series made me love it first but characters in the books are just as interesting.

I’ll admit this book did not make me love Anthony but I still read it within a day so it was clearly interesting enough for me not to be able to put down. The books are charming I think must be the word to describe them. Easy to read and incredible charming.
