I thought this book was going to be a campy slasher about, you know, a clown killing people in a cornfield. Instead, I got a weirdly political mass-murderfest with a legion of supervillain killer clowns who hate kids. Which is not a bad concept in theory, but it’s executed so poorly I couldn’t help cringing the entire time. Also, the horribly on the nose dialogue the paper-thin characters were constantly spouting didn’t help either. Maybe I’ll read the sequel if I can get it from the library, but otherwise I’ll pass on whatever else comes out of this series.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 72%.
I realized that I was actively dreading reading this book, which then led me to the realization that it was probably time to put the book down permanently.

What a depressing, sad, confusing, strange book. It’s my kind of strange though. This book manages to capture the feeling of losing someone you love so well it hurts. This book hurts.

Also in case you were wondering about the dog,
yes, the dog dies. It’s thematically relevant, but he does die
