The author does this wonderful thing where the characters will drift into reminiscence, anxious racing thoughts, or pensive planning for half a page or so and it need not be entirely related to what's happening, and then the character will rejoin the story around them. Very much how daydreaming feels, or maybe listening with one only one ear to something you don't care much about. Both author and translator have done phenomenal work here.
