Didn’t like the characters, the pace was way too slow for the plot, and I didn’t enjoy the writing style.

Mary B: An Untold Story of Pride and Prejudice by Katherine J. Chen

There was a plot point at about the 80% mark that I simply could not stomach. The look at Mary as her own character felt minimized and cheapened by it and I didn’t have the will to continue reading.

I’m not usually a big fan of modern retelling a of Austen works, but this was so successful. The characters and events were familiar, but the author made enough changes to keep it fresh and fun to read

Almost DNF’d when the characters were drinking alcohol from open containers on the streets of NYC, and one of them (supposedly an NYU student) referenced NYU’s “campus.” This was too direct a retelling for me, and the attempts to make it unique felt scattered and half-baked.
