„Každý jednotlivý den je jako jeden život.“

Jednoduše dobrá knížka. Děj ubíhal pocitově správnou rychlostí, moc mě bavila dynamika všech postav a obě dějové linky. Líbilo se mi, že se autorce podařilo vyhnout se mentalitě "Morana není jako ostatní holky," a prostě ji jinou udělala, aniž by z toho dělala klišé. Dobře se to četlo, i když v próze jsem viděla největší nedostatek knihy - na to, že je autorka prý bestsellerová, mi to přišo jako debut (špatné to nebylo, ale rozhodně tam byl prostor pro zlepšení).

Líbilo se mi, jak byly všechny postavy propojené už od prologu. Hodně to přidalo na atmosféře malého slovanského království. Taky jsem ocenila, že měla Morana několik "nápadníků," ale nedělala se z toho velká věc, prostě to byla součást jejího života.

Nejvíc jsem ale určitě ocenila, jak je každá stránka prodchnutá českým/slovanským folklórem, přitom na mě ale příběh nepůsobil neaktuálně, spíš naopak. A to, že autorka napsala na konec, z čeho čerpala (takže si toho můžu o folklóru načíst víc), je moc hezký bonus.
Celkově výborná fantasy na lednové večery, s tou pravou mírou "fantasy složitosti" a hezky plynoucím příběhem se zajímavými postavami.

A fascinating story I could not stop thinking about for months. Such an interesting study of the human soul, of the potential for evil in all of us.

“You're interesting, for a human. When you look into the sea, think of me sometimes.

An absolutely beautiful tale. I especially loved the dragon kingdom part and the ending (the ending feels like it healed something in me tbh).

The mastery in this story is undeniable, but I don't think I'll pick it up again for a long long time. The story has sucked the happiness out of my life while I was reading it.

“Greenwich is a funny word, isn't it? All green and witchy. Like soup.”

I don't know how this book managed to be even better than the last one, but it did. It was soooo fun!! I adored Winter and the rest of the crew, the plot was always moving, and it was so easy to get lost in the revolution for hours every day. I had some doubts about reading this series because it was so old (in the ya world), but oh my god how happy I am that I did. Truly one of the best books I've read in a while, it was just pure fun.

It wasn't bad, it just wasn't good. I don't regret reading it but will I pick it up again? probably not
Everything was just so meh - the characters, the final fight, the logic behind everyone's actions, even the (in theory) cool non-binary character felt a bit fake? idk
I did like all the representation tho, that was nice

"Nakonec to vypadalo, jako by jedinou úlohou ženy na tomto světě bylo neustále se obětovat, ustavičně se vzdávat choutkám zhýralých vojáků."

Úderná, až bolestivě pravdivá povídka. Ocenila jsem, že se Maupassant tentorkát vyvaroval barvitým naturalistickým popisům a zvolil téma, které je mi osobně bližší než rozklad lidského těla - rozklad lidské duše, to jak nás společnost dokáže velice efektivně zlomit, jak je morálka velice snadno ohýbatelná myšlenka. Na Kuličku jsem si za ty měsíce od doby, kdy jsem povídku četla, vzpomněla hned několikrát. Myslím, že se mnou rezonovala tak nečekaně silně i proto, že v době, kdy jsem ji četla, jsem si podobným dilematem (jedinec vs společnost) sama procházela a, k vlastnímu zklamání, jsem se podvolila stejně jako ona. Taky se mi líbilo, jak bylo v povídce zastoupeno hodně společenských vrstev, že se Maupassant jako tolik klasických autorů nesoustředil jen na morální přečiny vyšší vrstvy.
