me too need a year of rest and relaxation
My Year of Rest and Relaxation intrigued me when I saw it on I-D magazine the other day, my life has been piled with anxieties, burnout, and inconveniences. As a (mostly) hermit and desperate ex myself I could relate much to the main character, this book is comforting to me it feels like I'm looking through my future self.
I would say the book is wattpad-ish? at least that's how I would describe it, maybe the good one idk there is something about the "rich model living off parents inheritance and live by the central park", It's started out good and intriguing but further through it feels like a romcom, it's like one of the manga where a gal bothering a boy nerd by hanging out in his room that's what I see from Reva and the narrator. The ending isquite peaceful, I thought she is going to kill herself but turns out she doesn't. It left me with a melancholy note everytime Moshfegh wrote something like "that was the last time we spoke" or " the last time I’d see her in person ", maybe that's the way Moshfegh shown how metamorphosis works to end the mundane and starts a new beginning. There's not much to say about the ending, I could say the narrator is healed and life a peaceful happy life and her project is a massive W for her
extra: It might be cool that she spent her days in the year 2000 watching vintage VHS cause if this book set in present days she would be scrolling socials and getting herself a brainrot which def be a flop
