Godkiller feels like such a refreshing read and I am so lucky to have gotten the proof from NetGalley. I loved the dynamic between Kissen, Elo, and Inara. 3 people clumped together for a quest will always be a great trope but even more with such a colourful array of characters, I cannot believe it has taken Hanna 7 years to get published. The diversity in this story has been needed for such a long time and I cannot wait to read the next one.

You always, always underestimate how much fighting actually takes place in The Iliad. I honestly wasn’t sure if I would make it halfway through, even though I had read this before. Wilson’s translation is definitely more accessible than Rieu and I hope more and more people discover the magic of Homer through her translations. I don’t remember how the women spoke in Rieu’ translation but reading their speeches here did feel even more ridiculous and highlighted how women were treated by the Trojans and Greeks. I also appreciated the different book titles. I also got a kick out of the introduction when Wilson describes the relationship dynamic between Achilles and Patroclus as l wrote an essay on it at university.

A beautifully illustrated graphic novel with the ultimate cosy fantasy vibe.

An incredible comic that everyone should read just to get to a basic grasp of current events, however complicated it seems. I do find Sacco’s narrative out of touch sometimes, but he does show he is aware of how “Western” he is. You spend most of the comic with Palestinians and then and the very end you see how Israelis view the occupation and are blindsided by zionism It’s a heart-wrenching way to end the book, especially when very little has changed in the 30 years since Sacco visited Palestine.

First DNF of the year and I haven’t even completed a first book! I’m really struggling to like the characters in this, not enough for me to keep reading anyway. The separate stories just aren’t meshing well with each other for me, the pacing feels way too slow, and the odd chapter with a message from Ramona just feel really out of place.

I do wish we could have experienced more of Akari’s life, but I believe Rin Usami captured what it’s like to exist in a fandom world and how easy it is to care about trivial things than the bigger picture. The scene of Akari working the restaurant resonated with me the most, as well as some other language choices Usami used.
